What stays on your device
You can explore Atlas of All Things without signing up or providing your name or email address. The dictionary stores a few preferences in your browser so you can continue where you left off:
- Your saved words.
- Your chosen languages and whether you use one or two languages.
- Whether you show the pronunciation guide.
Managing saved words and settings
These preferences use local storage, which stays in this browser on this device. The dictionary does not upload your saved-word list or sync it to an account. Someone using the same browser profile may be able to see it.
Remove an individual word using its bookmark button. To remove all saved words and preferences, clear the site data for atlasofallthings.com in your browser settings. This resets the dictionary on that browser and cannot be undone. Private browsing or your browser’s own storage settings may also remove this data.
Preferences have no automatic expiry in the dictionary. They remain until you remove them or your browser clears them. If storage is blocked, you can still browse, but your choices may not be remembered between visits.
What happens when you visit
The public website is delivered through Cloudflare. Like other hosting and security providers, Cloudflare processes technical request data, which can include your IP address, requested pages or files, and browser or network information, to deliver and protect the website.
Searches inside the dictionary are matched in your browser. We do not send the text you type to a search or translation service. Opening a page, loading an illustration or fetching a description still creates a normal website request.
We do not add advertising trackers, advertising cookies or analytics scripts to the dictionary. Local storage is used for the preferences described above. Cloudflare’s handling and retention of technical data are described in its privacy policy.
Listening to words
When you press a speaker button, the dictionary gives the displayed word to your browser’s speech service. Available voices and how they work depend on your browser, device and settings. Some voices run on your device; others may send the text to an online voice provider.
The dictionary does not need microphone access and does not record your voice. You can use every browsing and reading feature without playing audio.
Families and external links
Parents and children can explore pictures together without creating a child profile or submitting personal information. The dictionary has no public comments, messaging or upload feature.
Reference links may take you to another website. That website’s privacy practices apply once you visit it. Please avoid sharing sensitive personal information when asking a question or reporting an error.

If you email us, we receive your email address and the content you choose to send so we can respond to your enquiry. You can also ask us about, correct or request deletion of information you have sent us.
Your locally saved words are managed in your own browser; we cannot access or remove that list for you. Follow the instructions above to clear it on your device.
